Markus Frind earn $10,000 per month from Google Adsense. Read what he says about his success: Back in 2001 after my birthday someone in the office introduced me to online dating sites. I went back to my desk and checked out udate.com and kiss.com and lavalife/web personals. I was bored and I wanted to chat with people. I was really annoyed when I found out you had to pay for everything, I ended up telling the girl who introduced me to the sites that I could do better and make them for free, so I went and registered Plentyoffish.com. All I ever ended up doing was creating an index page and forgot about it.

Fast forward to 2003, I had been jumping jobs every couple of months from one sinking ship to another. I had just joined a new company with 30 employees on Dec 1st of 2002, by the time Feb rolled around 15 people had already been laid off and I started to worry. I started thinking about finishing my site and learning asp.net at the same time and I wondered why people didn’t come rushing to join. I quickly started building my site and actually made it somewhat functional although most pages where in asp, others in asp.net. Somehow I ran across this site http://www.cre8asiteforums.com, once there I was introduced to the concept of SEO, boy did that open my eyes. I started exchanging links with everyone and anyone and finally got a bit of traffic. Then I sat back and waited for the famous google dance, the once a month update. At the start of March google updated and I got pagerank, but still not much traffic and I made my first post here asking for help.

At the start of March I had ~40 members my site was running off my home machine, people where complaining I didn’t allow image uploading so by mid march I had added image uploading. You can see how absolutely horrible the site looked here. By the end of March my site went viral and started growing 2 to 5% a day and it was off to the races from there. I was still developing on the live site/home machine and I always prayed nothing would crash.

Then at the end of June Adsense came out up until then I had no real way of monetizing my site. I had a single affiliate program but it didn’t even make $40/month. I went and added Adsense pretty quick, I made a whole $5.63 cents my first month, but that was more then enough for me to realize that I wouldn’t go broke running the site and I could make a business out of this with enough traffic. In my evenings I started working really hard on my site learning asp.net trying to convert my hastily put together asp pages to asp.net and trying to add more pages/functionality. I was doing the Beta thing before it was cool. I was updating/building the live site every couple of minutes, if the site crashed I didn’t really care, only took a few seconds to fix it.

I once again complained in my thread about my sites lack of SEO results it was September of 2003, I had 10k signups now and only a ~100 visitors a day from google and other 2,000 unique visitors a day from who knows where. By the time October rolled around my site was rolling, I quit my job at the start of the month and FINALLY went and bought a little server and moved my site to a hosting provider at the end of October. Still can’t believe I ran my site off my home computer for the first 8 months.

My short description leaves a lot out, but basically I spent every waking minute when I wasn’t at my day job reading, studying, and learning. I picked out “enemies” and did everything I could to defeat them which ment being bigger then them. I refused to accept defeat of any kind, and I constantly forced myself to test new things. I never tried to perfect anything it didn’t matter if things didn’t work 100% as long as it was good enough I would move onto the next thing. In 2003 the dating market was growing 80% a year unlike the -10% in 2006 so growth was a LOT easier. When 2004 rolled around and word of mouth REALLY kicked in and as they say the rest is history.

I look back now at how ill prepared I was, I didn’t know anything about SEO, Advertising, community and I didn’t even know what Venture Capital was. Just goes to show you anyone can do anything.

The concept behind paid-to-write sites is simple – you write the content, it attracts a (hopefully) large audience, the site owner shares its revenue (from advertising) with you. But does it really work? Is it really worth spending hours typing up a beautifully written article, only to be disappointed a week later that you’ve only made $0.30 from the 30 views you got?
The answer —> Freelance writing never pays much. If you would prefer to take a dip into the professional writing market, you are welcome to do so (in fact, I might write a blog on that later). But with professional writing, you are constantly under the threat of Rejection, with a capital R. These paid-to-write sites are just the opposite; they don’t care (as much) if your content is really bad, they don’t care if it makes their site look like a six-year-old’s scrapbook, they will accept anything they can get their hands on, in order to increase their revenue. Hence, you don’t get paid that well. (That’s not a fully justified reason, but just my attempt to explain why our efforts on writing those articles have all gone to waste.) Well, having said that much, I’ll leave the final choice to you, but if you aren’t patient/hate writing, this is not the way to earn money for you.

NB: My definition of paid-to-write sites include: sites where you are paid to post stories and articles, sites where you are paid to post in a forum, sites where you are paid to write reviews of products… sites where you are paid to write in general.
Here are some paid-to-write sites that I’ve tried (the order of the list is of no importance; i.e. if a site is the first in the list, it doesn’t mean that it is the best.

1. http://www.triond.com/

This site has rather strict submission requirements (for a paid-to-write site). You can submit any number of your articles/stories, but they reserve the right to reject your content if they feel that it is too similar to already published content. Unfortunately, they don’t pay very well. Payment is not based on the number of views of your work, but on how many people click on the ads on your page. And since not many people go round clicking ads, you don’t get much payment. So far, I’ve earned $0.01, although I’ve been semi-actively submitting articles for the past 2 weeks. I wouldn’t recommend this site, but if you want to give it a go, why not? Payment is by paypal, once you’ve reached the $10 threshold (i.e. impossible to reach for me).

2. http://www.helium.com/

I’ve had slightly more success with this site, but not much. Everything that is submitted to this site is accepted (unlike triond), unless it is something that they’ve asked you specifically not to write about. Most submissions to this site are non-fiction articles, although there is a catergory specifically for creative writing & poetry. Payment is based on the number of views your article gets. I’ve earned $0.29 from one article, but that’s still a long way off the cashout mark, $25. Payment is by paypal. I wouldn’t recommend this site for earning money, but helium has a wonderful community where you are able to participate in debates and contests, so it is a great place to make friends.

3. http://www.mylot.com/?ref=whitestarr

This is a forum-like site, where you are paid to post comments. Although the site layout & site design badly needs work, there is a wonderful community here. The payment formula is a mystery, but I’ve written one post & got $0.01, so I’m supposing it’s based on how much you write, not how many views you get. A downside is that this site is slow to load (at least for me) and constantly freezes my computer. (I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.) Quote from their website: “myLot pays users monthly (on or around the 15th of the month) with minimum account balance of $10 US. myLot carries foward all unpaid and qualified earnings from previous months. All unpaid earnings become unqaulified when account has no activity in the past 3 months.” Payment is by paypal. (Thanks in advance to all who put me – whitestarr – down as the referrer! Look forward to seeing you there!)

4. http://www.ciao.co.uk/

I’m not sure if this paid-to-review site has anything to do with ciao surveys (probably does, otherwise they’ll be firing lawsuits at each other), but it is not the same as ciao surveys. Anyway, I like this site, because it has a very nice community, and (compared to triond and helium), you can earn money almost instantly. Basically, you write reviews on products, which can range from your favourite fantasy novel to your dream car.
The downside of this site is that there are some annoying popups, but I guess that in order for the site to survive (and to be able to pay the reviewers), they are going to need some form of revenue (which they chose to obtain from popups). Definitely download a free popup blocker if you don’t have one already. I’m not sure about this, but since it is a .uk site, it may be that only UK residents can join. If you don’t live in UK, don’t fret. Scroll down to the bottom of the webpage & there are links to other ciao sites for other countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands & Sweden). If you live outside the EU… well, here’s a quote from the UK site, “Although, as a non-UK member, you are very welcome to participate fully in every aspect of Ciao UK, we are unfortunately not able to pay you unless you have a UK bank account.”
Did I mention that payment is by a money transfer to your bank account? Minimum cashout is 5 Pounds.

5. http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/

Unfortunately for us non-UK residents, this paid-to-review site is again unavailable to us. However, if you live in UK (or specific countries in the EU), this is a great opportunity to earn money! The theory behind this site is that if you review on a product & others give you a rating, you will earn an amount of dooyooMILES, depending on the rating you were given. It is fairly easy to earn dooyoo miles – I have only written one review (before I realized that the site only paid UK members), and I already have 360 dooyooMILES. And it wasn’t such a great review either, more like a mad rambling, but I still got 360 dooyooMILES!!! But… (there’s always a but)… 1000 dooyooMILES = £1 … so I’ve earned £0.36, which is really not that bad.

Useful quotes from the website:

“You need a minimum of 55000 dooyoo miles to convert them to cash.” [eyes pop out]
“dooyooMILES are only valid for exactly 1 year. Afterwards they cannot be cashed in anymore.” [keep that in mind]
“dooyooMILES have no cash value and cannot be automatically converted into prizes, gifts, vouchers or cash except at dooyoo’s optional choice.” [what's that supposed to mean?]
“If you don’t have a UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands address, the only dooyooMILES conversion mechanism available is to donate your dooyooMILES to a UK charity of your choice” [and I can't even do that because you need 1000 dooyooMILES to donate, and I don't have that]

Payment is by cheque (oh dear, I just realized that all of my previous spelling of “cheque” are wrong… I wrote “check”… feel free to laugh at me… I will go back and edit when I have time.)

6. http://www.xomba.com/

This is one that I have not tried personally. You are supposed to apply for a xomba account & a google adsense account, and then post articles on the xomba website. Google adsense will put advertisements on your xomba pages & if anyone clicks on them, you get some money. The catch is – you have to share your (hard earned) money with Xomba, 50-50! Personally, I tend to be suspicious of these sites – who on earth is going to give Xomba 50% of the money, when you can make a free website with free hosting & earn money there from Adsense yourself??? In addition, Xomba has a poor site design, which implies that they couldn’t afford to pay a professional to design their site, meaning that they probably can’t afford to pay writers either.
Quote from the site – “You acknowledge that Xomba.com reserves the right to charge for the Services and to change its fees from time to time in its discretion. ” [Can this get worse?]
This is one good reason why you should always read the website’s terms of use before signing up. Those terms of use are the dark secrets in the hearts of these scammers & they hope that we won’t find them by writing them in an extremely small font & “forgetting” to link them to the main site. Well, I can’t really say Xomba is a scammer. I’ve never tried it. If you gave it a go & found my previous statements wrong, please leave a comment.

7. http://www.associatedcontent.com/

This is a great site, not only for publishing articles/stories, but also for publishing video, audio & images. There’s two ways to earn money, members from the United States are eligible for both, but international members are only eligible for one of them. The type that is eligible for both members from the US & internationally is called “performance payments” – you are paid $1.50 for every thousand page views your content receives (and no, you shouldn’t try to view your page a thousand times to increase your earnings). “Upfront payments” are available to US residents only – you are paid ($3 to $20) upfront for your content. Payment is by paypal only.

8. http://www.constant-content.com/?aref=13950

Finally! A site that pays international members. (If you find out that it doesn’t, please let me know by leaving a comment, so that I can edit this.) Here, you can submit writing (non-fiction articles), photography, videos and illustrations. They have fairly strict submission rules, so I’d suggest you read this before submitting

http://www.constantcontent.com/area/writerguidelines.htm

Constant-content acts as a middle party and acts as a platform where publishers and writers can interact negotiate about the price. The author is paid 65% of the sale price and constant content keeps the rest. Minimum payout is $50. Payment is during the first week of every month, provided that you have reached your minimum payout. Payment is by paypal.

Many of the people who write blogs today simply want to share their opinion on something. But then there are the business-minded folks, who have found a way to use blogs, or Web logs, to bring in a little extra cash too. Here are five strategies that could turn your blog into a moneymaker.

Sell advertising:

This is likely the most common means of leveraging a blog to generate income. If yours happens to become a well-known blog, or one that is well-received in a particular niche, it’s always possible to sell ad space on your own. For lesser-known blogs, services such as Google’s AdSense or BlogAds enable bloggers to establish ad programs.

AdSense’s — which lets you select several ads that are consistent with the content of your blog — pays you based on how many readers click on the ads for further information. Even better, it’s free. BlogAds, on the other hand, hooks bloggers up with would-be advertisers and levies a commission in return for any ad placements that result. “The nice thing, too, is that the ads are relatively unobtrusive,” says Scott Allen, co-author of “The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Online.”

Help sell others’ products:

Here is another click-through opportunity. Affiliate programs enable your blog to serve as a conduit between readers and online sites offering various goods and services. One popular choice is Amazon.com. If, for instance, you offer book reviews or even just mention a book in passing in your blog, an affiliate program provides a means for your readers to click directly from your blog to Amazon to obtain further information about the book. If they break out the checkbook or charge card, you get paid as well.

Solicit contributions:

Not every blog-related income opportunity involves hawking goods or services. As Blanche DuBois did in “A Streetcar Named Desire,” consider relying on the kindness of strangers. Ask for contributions. If, for instance, your small-business blog supports a cause or issue in some fashion — say you repeatedly mention tax reform, health care or some other topic — you can always ask for reader support.

Even if you’ve attracted a group of regular followers who simply enjoy reading what you have to say, they may be willing to underwrite their loyalty with a little financial help. Programs such as PayPal make it easy to establish a simple on-site contribution collection button. “There are lots of worthy ’cause’ blogs that would qualify for donations from grateful members of the blog community,” says Las Vegas communications consultant Ned Barnett.

Market your services in your blog:

Many people associate blogs exclusively with a cyberspace-based soapbox — a place to shout your opinions and little more than that. Granted, blogs are an ideal venue to share your thoughts with others, but don’t overlook their capacity to generate new business as well. When appropriate, work in references to what you do and, in turn, what you may be able to offer any would-be client or customer who may be reading your blog. That can spread your opinion and your business moxie at the same time.

“Instead of short commentaries that begin a dialogue with readers, as many blogs do, I write the equivalent of journal articles that demonstrate my abilities, strategies and perspectives on specific issues,” Barnett says. “When it resonates, it means money. Since starting this approach, I have generated three new paying clients and brought in about $10,000 on revenue — directly attributable to specific blogs.”

Use a blog to deepen your existing customer relationships:

Nor does any marketing material inserted in blog content have to be limited to bringing in completely new business. By using a blog to regularly communicate with existing clients as well as other readers, you can take advantage of the opportunity to fully inform them about everything your business does. That may expand your readers’ understanding of the full scope of your products or services.

“My blog has helped existing clients determine the range of my skills and services,” says Ted Demopoulos of Demopoulos Associates, a Durham, N.H. consulting and training concern. “One client who had only used me for training in the past was surprised at my range of expertise and is now using me for a consulting project. Another who only used me on technical projects is now considering me for a more business-oriented project.”

A Web log, or blog, can be a boon to your business. In an accompanying article, I offer reasons why business owners and managers might want to establish themselves as bloggers. But now comes the inevitable question: How do you get started? Here are seven tips to get your Web log up and blogging.

1. Identify your audience:

A basic precept of any business is just as essential with your blog. It’s critical to pinpoint your audience and, in the process, decide what you’re going to say that will make them read what you write. “It’s really a process of elimination —what’s not being covered by someone else?” says Scott Allen, co-author of the upcoming book “The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Using Online Social Networks.” “What’s your unique spin? If you don’t have an original voice, why is anybody going to read it?”

2. Decide where your blog should live:

Next up is determining where to locate your blog. There are numerous software packages that let you add a blog section to an existing Web site. A more automated and perhaps easier option is a blog hosting site (with a link from your Web site bringing visitors over). Here, the setup is easy, as the site usually provides preformatted designs and other options from which you can choose. In particular, watch for features that may be helpful in building traffic, such as trackers that identify recent posts and the most popular message threads. (See sites such as Businessblogconsulting.com for reviews of various publishing platforms. One easy place to create a blog is on Windows Live Spaces.)

3. Start talking:

At this point, bringing your blog live will mean little more than placing your thoughts, observations and insights into the blog for others to read. But to really kick start your blogging traffic, don’t just vent marketing-speak about how great your business is, or chatter about news and current events for which you offer no expertise. Instead, aim for a fresh, unique take. Provide a perspective that is heartfelt, compelling, and has the potential tohelp you market yourself and your business. One way to get up to speed on what to say is to read other blogs and, in turn, offer your own viewpoint on an industry or business topic for which you know something about. “It’s not a matter of competing with other blogs,” Allen notes. “But one way to attract other bloggers to your site is to start reading other blogs and commenting on what they’re writing about.”

4. Get into the practice of “blogrolling.”:

Getting regular visitors to your site isn’t just a matter of fresh, insightful commentary. Building traffic between blogs is another central element to luring repeat visitors. Here, “blogrolling” is an effective tool. This, in essence, is a set of links on your blog site that identifies other sites on the Internet — related to your business, industry or expertise — which you find valuable. Developed in conjunction with a fresh voice, blogrolling encourages a steady back and forth between various sites, including other blogs. “Write commentary about what other bloggers have written, then link to them,” Allen says. “That really gets you into the overall bloggers’ pool.”

5. Emphasize keywords:

Search engine hits are another element of generating traffic. One strategy to attract search engine interest is through careful use of keywords in both your headlines and blog copy. For instance, if your topic focuses on marketing a business overseas, use of the words “marketing” and “overseas” as often as possible and in varied permutations can help push your blog site toward the head of the search engine line. “Stay on one topic, so your content is focused on keywords,” advises Sally Falkow, a Pasadena, Calif., brand strategist who uses a blog in her business. “That, and link to other blogs on the subject.”

6. Keep it fresh:

One cardinal snafu that can bring down even the best intentioned of blogs is stale content. Nothing is more discouraging to prospective readers than returning to a blog site to find old or outdated material. So, be prepared to work at keeping your blog as fresh and current as possible. That doesn’t necessarily mean regular entries as lengthy as a Michener novel — indeed, many engaging blogs are built of short, concise messages. But make a commitment to update your blog on as regular basis as your schedule reasonably permits. “You need to develop what I describe as a ruthless persistence toward posting, particularly if you disseminate the blog’s address, and customers or suppliers come to depend on the information,” says Rich Hanley, director of graduate programs in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. “People view blogs as daily information vehicles, not once in a while musings on a stray issue. Think of blogs as a conversation, and that will help with the daily focus.”

7. Watch your traffic closely:

Don’t make the mistake of feeling locked into your blog’s initial topic. Monitor the amount and quality of the traffic you receive. If things seem slow or stagnant, don’t be gun-shy about varying your themes or subjects to boost interest. But don’t stray too far from your business or expertise. Also, advises Falkow, “Investigate how effective the [publishing] platform you choose to blog in is. I have tried several that did nothing for my search visibility.” Jeff Wuorio

LET GOOGLE WORK FOR YOU:

Selling ad space might be the oldest way to make a buck, and with Google’s free AdSense service (www.google.com/adsense), it’s way too easy. AdSense allows bloggers to display up to three content-specific “ad units” (boxes that can hold up to four ads each) per page. “If you’re writing about sports cars, they’ll be ads about sports cars,” says Biz Stone, Blogger senior specialist at Google. Each time a visitor clicks these ads, you get paid. Google doesn’t disclose its exact share of the revenue, but a personalized report page lets you track your own earnings. Earn at least $100 and Google sends you a check.

PLAY AD-SALES EXEC:

If you want more control over the ads on your blog, hit www.blogads.com. BlogAds lets you join its database free and set your own ad prices. Companies (including media bigs such as Paramount Pictures and Random House) then search for suitable blogs and purchase ad space for a set period — say, one month. In contrast to the way AdSense works, your earnings don’t depend on whether a reader clicks the ad. All you have to do is give 20 percent of your net revenue to Mr. BlogAd, and you keep the rest. Perhaps best of all, you can indulge your megalomaniacal tendencies by approving or declining potential ads at will.

BE THE MIDDLEMAN:

Many companies run “affiliate” programs: Post an ad provided by Amazon.com or Lands’ End, for example, and receive a small commission every time your readers click that ad, go to the company’s Web site and end up buying a book or splurging on a down parka. Referral fees — the cash you get from these transactions — vary (you can earn as much as 10 percent per sale from Amazon). LinkShare (www.linkshare.com) claims to run the Internet’s biggest “affiliate marketing network,” with more than 600 companies on its roster of advertisers. Another service, Commission Junction (www.cj.com), runs programs for eBay and Expedia.com, among others.

PASS THE CUP:

If you’re toiling away to maintain a blog that people enjoy, why not ask your guests to show a little monetary appreciation? The online payment service PayPal (www.paypal.com) lets you add a donation button to your blog. You can opt to receive money in U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars, Japanese yen, pounds sterling or euros. When visitors give money, PayPal sends you an e-mail to let you know. Amazon’s Honor System (www.amazon.com/honorsystem) and BitPass (www.bitpass.com) offer similar donation options.

SELL SCHWAG:

Don’t dig ads? Uncomfortable asking for handouts? Then create your own blog-branded gear at CafePress.com, which offers more than 50 products begging for your unique logo. Choose from standard fare such as T-shirts and coffee cups, or, if Grandma doesn’t read your blog, opt for sexy thong underwear (ooh la la). You get to sell each product at whatever price your entrepreneurial heart desires. CafePress gets back the original base price ($13.99 for T-shirts, $10.99 for mugs); you keep the markup. Just add your online store’s link to your blog, and all that’s left to do is wait for CafePress to send you a monthly check. See? It’s practically like your real job. Mike Peed

Get-Paid-To websites can be considered the middlemen between advertisers and you, the end-user or consumer. Advertisers pay these companies to generate leads and attract potential customers onto their services.

These sites will pass a portion of what they earn to you when you patronize or visit the advertisers. This mostly entails performing specific actions such as:

Visiting a website to complete a survey

Reading Email advertisements

Referring a friend to purchase a product

Opening up a free user account on the website

Purchasing a refundable trial product or subscription

Giving an email address for a newsletter

After doing these offers, you’ll get paid for each of them that is approved. For example, an offer might state that you will earn $21 if you sign up for a 7 day free trial with an online dating website.

Be sure to cancel your 7 day free trial after the offer is approved by the Get Paid To website and you’ll essentially be getting $21 for free. When it comes to Get Paid to websites, you’ll stand to make a lot more money when you own a credit card.

Free offers are also available for those who prefer not to use any credit cards or sign up for any trial-based offers. These are low priced and usually involve $0.50 to $2 offers. They are less readily available, although this depends on the website.

Who Can Use Get Paid To Websites?

Get Paid To Websites have geographic restrictions that are based on their business locations. Most of them are only available for U.S residents, although there are some who cater for international users.

There aren’t many international offers in these websites and I can only conclude that users based in the U.S are the ones who will make the most money from Get Paid To websites.
However, one way to bypass this limitation is to concentrate your efforts on referring active U.S-based users and earning commissions from their completed offers.

Why Should I Use Get Paid to Websites?

Here’s the main benefit of using Get Paid to (GPT) Websites: You can make money even if you don’t have your own website or know any specific skills. You can do this online from home and what you really need is just willingness to spend time completing offers.

A credit card and a personal webpage for referrals would be ideal if you’re interested in making more money but they are not entirely necessary. A simple paper or online organizer/spreadsheet to record down offers down or payments due would be very helpful when you are actively using GPT sites.

Income generated from these get-paid-to websites can be substantial. According to the forum threads and blogs I’ve read over the past few months, you can make a minimum of $100 to $2,000+ a month. From what I know about get paid to websites, this amount of monthly income is possible and can be achieved with effort.

Are they Internet Scams?

There are always scams when it comes to making money online. Cheaters and unscrupulous thieves exist in the Get Paid to industry as well. Nonetheless, there are many Get Paid To websites which are legitimate and highly credible.

They are staffed by responsible business men and women, who will listen to your feedback and pay you on time. I would advise you to go with the more established GPT sites, primary because they have a history of paying their users. Like everything else, be wary of new websites and learn how to work within the GPT rules.

Making Money with Get Paid to Websites

I would recommend sticking with a few get paid to websites instead of actively using all of them. The main reason is that use of many websites will inevitably lead to the completion of duplicate/similar offers, which may result in you not getting paid for the legitimate offers that you’ve completed so far.

Not to mention that tracking multiple websites and payments on a daily basis can be rather tiring or difficult, even though you may have all the time to do so. I do however recommend signing up for the websites and using their affiliate programs.

Get Paid to websites have lucrative affiliate programs which will give you truly recurring and passive income, once you have amassed a large number of active users who in turn recruit other users.

I receive a steady amount of monthly commissions from doing absolutely no work at all; without even logging into or using the Get Paid to websites. This is something anyone else can achieve as well.
